We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design & Draftsperson to join our growing Pre-Contracts Team based in Burton, South Australia.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on diverse and technically challenging water treatment projects, developing bid-stage process and mechanical designs that help secure some of Australia's most critical water infrastructure projects.

About the Role

Working as a key member of our Pre-Contracts Team, you will be responsible for developing engineering process drawings, mechanical equipment designs and plant layouts for customer tenders, Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) projects and budget proposals. You will collaborate closely with Bid Managers, Application Engineers, Estimators, Sales personnel and downstream delivery teams to produce accurate, competitive and practical designs that support successful project outcomes.

Using AutoCAD Plant 3D, Autodesk Inventor and associated design tools, you will develop:

  • Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
  • Single Line Diagrams
  • Control Architecture Diagrams
  • Equipment layouts and site layouts
  • 3D skid and plant models
  • Piping and structural fabrication drawings
  • Bills of Quantities (BOQs)
  • Mechanical and process design documentation

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Bid Stage Design

  • Develop bid-stage mechanical and process designs for water treatment projects, rental systems and operational upgrades.
  • Interpret customer specifications and convert requirements into practical design solutions.
  • Produce high-quality design deliverables including P&IDs, plot plans, GA drawings, 3D models, isometric drawings and fabrication drawings.
  • Participate in bid reviews and support proposal development activities.
  • Identify and communicate technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Support project handovers to delivery teams following project award.

Design Development & Innovation

  • Contribute to the development of standardised design models and templates for future projects.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Project Delivery teams to incorporate lessons learned and best-practice design approaches.
  • Maintain knowledge of Osmoflo design standards, equipment and emerging technologies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, innovation and competitiveness.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Projects, Operations and Procurement teams.
  • Participate in customer, vendor and internal project meetings.
  • Contribute to technical development, standardisation and knowledge sharing across the business.

 

About You

To be successful in this role you will bring:

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Certified Mechanical Drafting qualification.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D for mechanical design and Smart P&ID development.
  • 5–8 years' experience in detailed mechanical and piping design within water or wastewater industries.
  • Strong experience using 3D design and plant modelling software.
  • Knowledge of piping standards, materials and specifications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.

Desirable

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree.
  • Experience designing water treatment process plants and systems.
  • Knowledge of membrane-based water treatment technologies.
  • Experience in project delivery environments.
  • Understanding of Australian Standards, ASME, ANSI and API standards.
  • Experience with third-party 3D modelling platforms such as PDS or PDMS.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of quality management systems and commercial project considerations.
