About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary engineering design activities across water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering outcomes that meet project scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations. You will also act as the primary technical interface with clients and play a key leadership role across local and international engineering teams.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage engineering and design deliverables across multiple projects.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering inputs (process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and civil).
  • Ensure engineering outcomes align with project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Develop and implement design management plans and engineering standards.
  • Act as the key point of contact for clients on all engineering-related matters.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of vendor and subcontractor proposals.
  • Support procurement activities with technical recommendations.
  • Provide engineering support to sales and proposal teams as required.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineers across Australian and international hubs.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO quality systems and document control requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and best engineering practices.

About You

You are a proactive engineering leader with strong technical depth and stakeholder management skills. You enjoy leading teams, solving complex problems, and delivering quality outcomes in a project-driven environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong experience in water industry technologies, particularly membrane and filtration systems.
  • Broad understanding of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, process, and civil engineering.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to balance technical and commercial outcomes.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer (Engineers Australia).
  • PMBOK or project management qualification.
  • Experience delivering water or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Site-based installation and commissioning experience.
  • International engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of ISO Quality Management Systems.
